Choose bike lights
Today's bike lights are lightweight, cheap and often rechargeable – so many good reasons to make your bike a blinky beacon of safety.
Get pumped to pedal
Start by purchasing your tickets online and make a note to pick up your registration package before the event (Sept 14 or 15 from the Creekside Community Centre). It’s also time to get stoked on the awesome prize lineup, including your chance to win an MEC Silhouette Bicycle.
For this event, costumes are definitely encouraged. Always wanted to cruise along the skyscrapers dressed like neon royalty? Now’s your chance! Plan a group costume with your friends or family if you’re feeling extra creative.
Outfit your ride
Close your eyes and imagine your bike covered in lights. There’ll be a bike decorating station at the pre-party, but it never hurts to come prepared. Headlamps, bike lights, bells and reflective clothing are all a great idea.
You’ll also want to get creative with your decorating – think glow sticks, fairy lights, glitter… the brighter, the better.
Kick it off at the pre-party
The pre-party’s on from 6:00–8:00pm. Stop by Concord Pacific Place (Pacific and Carrall) for free bike inspections, giveaways, games, a live DJ and more.
The pre-party also gives you time to find anyone you’re meeting for the ride and get yourself ready to whip around.
Hit the road
Pedaling starts at 8:00pm, so don’t be late! The route is 10km of flat terrain and will take you along downtown, over the Burrard Bridge, and back again around False Creek. You’ll join tons of fellow Vancouverites for the city’s biggest party on two wheels.
